2009 Tom Curtis Memorial at Georgetown

October 3rd-4th, 2009

Tom Curtis Memorial hosted by Georgetown University
Alexandria, Virginia

The Tom Curtis Memorial Regatta, held on October 3rd and 4th at the Washington Sailing Marina in Alexandria, VA, may have been in the fall season, but the clear blue skies and high-seventies temperatures certainly made it feel like a beautiful summer regatta. Winds were very variable, from 3 to 8 miles per hour normally, but with the occasionally 15mph gust. Shifty as well, a lift or header could be as much as ninety degrees. In one A-division race,a shift occurred just at the start, forcing boats on the pin half of the line to tack, or not even cross the line. Both divisions were of fresh pairings, with freshman Sean Orzolek sailing in his first collegiate regatta ever with Tony Koch, and Andrew Cebulski and Aaron Chapin sailing in their first regatta together. Special thanks go out to Michael Heinsdorf for hosting the team.
